One of my most favorite things about being back in the building this year has been the bulletin boards. Our shift to hybrid was relatively quick and many teachers were only in school just a few days before students arrived. Our wonderful, creative library staff jumped right in to create fun, welcoming bulletin boards that included positive messages. Teachers and students alike have commented this Spring on the joy they have brought to our school. I want to thank Ronda for all of her hard work!
This burly guy lives on Main Street, the student corridor that connects our buildings. Our mascot, large and in charge, even in his mask, and of course, has our “Arms Locked, Hearts Full” mantra for the year shown as a reminder for all our students to see.
This fun board is right outside my classroom and was the inspiration for this post! As a former Science teacher, it brings me back to the days of atoms, and cells and plants and ecosystems. Certainly fun times at the very beginning of my teaching career.
Parents, students, and teachers have grieved for the eighth graders who were not in the building until April this year. Those students missing out on some of the fun activities we have planned in the past has been difficult, to say the least. I hope this board reminds them that no matter what, they are swaggin’!
These two boards are so cool as they not only advertise the importance of math in students’ lives but also have a subtle Social, Emotional message to boost climate and culture and encourage students as they walk down the hall.
Our middle school can offer an exploratory Spanish class and first-year high school Spanish. No matter if you are a student who speaks Spanish or one trying to learn Spanish, what an inviting board outside those classrooms. In particular, I think the flags of nations that speak Spanish are included on the board. They add a great touch.
As this crazy year draws to a close, I hope these ideas to dress up next year’s hallways give you fun ideas to build upon. A positive space for kids while they are in school goes a long way to adding positivity to school climate and culture.
For now, finish this year strong, enjoy the days you have with your students, and look forward to school feeling a lot more normal in the fall.
